Ipe Hardwood Decking is strong, durable and naturally resistant to wear, rot, splintering, termites, fire, chemicals, marine borers, and virtually every other threat imaginable. When you consider all of these benefits it’s easy to see why Ipe is fast becoming the choice for many decks and outdoor living spaces in Lower Mainland Vancouver, BC and beyond.
Incredible Durability. Natural Beauty. Low Maintenance. You may not realize it – but you’ve probably already seen Ipe on many benches, boardwalks or decks throughout the Lower Mainland and in resorts such as Whistler Blackcomb. Perfectly suited to our climate – you can enjoy the beauty and warmth of a real wood deck without the hassles. Ipe (pronounced “ee-pay”) does not require a stain or sealer for durability – ever. Left unsealed, it will weather age with character to a handsome silver patina. Alternatively a periodic one-coat application of Penofin Hardwood Oil can be used to maintain the rich natural colour.
Ipe Decking Maintenance
You may have read that “maintenance-free decking” exists. There is no such thing as "maintenance-free" when it comes to structures that are exposed to varying climate conditions. Even an ipe deck requires some general maintenance. If you want to keep your deck surface clean, you’ll have to brush off leaves or clean up those spilled cups of soda when you host a party.
Aside from incidental issues, ipe decking maintenance is generally easy. We always recommend that you apply a deck oil to finish the ipe decking. Using ipe wood decking oil will boost an ipe deck's capacity to repel water and UV rays. It will also aid in keeping the reddish-brown color.

Tigerwood (Gonçalo Alves) is one of the most beautiful and durable species of hardwood decking available. Visually striking in appearance – this neo-tropical tree grows from Central to South America and varies in color from orangey-reds to dark brown tones, with pronounced black striping. Grain pattern can be straight, but is commonly wavy with a fine, uniform texture and natural luster.
Tigerwood’s natural resistance to rot and decay mean it’s an excellent choice for a low maintenance deck. Commonly available deck board widths are 4″, 6″ and 8″ though other sizes are subject to availability. We supply both solid-edge and pre-grooved Tigerwood Decking, which can be fastened with Smart-bit Pro-Plug system, BlackTalon® or Ipe Clip Hidden Fasteners. Tigerwood will generally last 2-3 times longer than Redwood, Western Red Cedar or even treated wood and is naturally rot and insect resistant. For your piece of mind – TigerDeck® Tigerwood is backed by a manufacturers 25-year limited warranty. Left to weather – Tigerwood will grey to a handsome silvery patina and it’s characteristic stripes will eventually become more uniform as the natural oils dry out and the wood ages. To enhance and preserve the colour of new Tigerwood Decking, we recommend Penofin Hardwood Formula – which is designed specifically for Hardwoods such as this. We’ve tested a number of products designed to protect exotic species of Decking and our research suggests that Penofin is the best product in terms of penetration, lustre and longevity.

Natural Beauty and Durability
Fine landscape architecture demands the highest quality materials. With rich natural beauty and legendary durability, Nova Batu Decking is a great choice for exterior decking applications. Batu (also known as Membatu, Selangan Batu or Red Balau) is known for its hardness, beauty and natural durability. Professional builders and do-it-yourselfers alike enjoy working with Nova Batu Decking because of its high quality and consistency.
We carefully select only the finest timber to achieve a nearly blemish free decking with excellent color consistency, superior strength and natural durability, thus ensuring there is no compromise on quality. While there are more than 200 different species of Meranti / Philippine Mahogany found throughout Asia, our Batu Decking utilizes only a select few species found within the Shorea Genus. Although similar in appearance to Meranti / Philippine Mahogany, Nova Batu decking is twice as hard and considerably more durable. With top of the line beauty and tough, long lasting performance, our Batu Decking is the product which others try to emulate. Because we stake our reputation on the superior quality of our products, we are confident that when your project is complete, you will be satisfied with the distinctive beauty and performance of Nova Batu Decking.
Colour, Texture & Grain
Heartwood from Batu Hardwood Decking ranges from a medium red to a deep red / brown with purple tinges and often has resin canals with white contents in concentric lines on end surfaces which produce a warm and visually striking effect. The texture is moderately fine and grain is typically interlocked. Our Red Balau Batu Hardwood is carefully graded in order to achieve a nearly blemish-free deck plank with excellent colour consistency as well as superior strength and of course – natural resistance to rot and decay.
